Palaver (p-lvr, -lävr)

NOUN:
1. Idle chatter.
2. Talk intended to charm or beguile.

Let’s begin by saying that I was born here and lived in this town for over half a century, which should earn you the right to be crabby.Waukesha is the anglicized version of a Native American word which meant “By the Little Fox” when I was growing up. That’s Waukesha in the header, the Fox River flows through it. Between the Civil War and World War I, Waukesha was a resort town, renowned for the supposed healing power of its water. It was once known as “Cow County USA” because it had more cows than people. After fifty years, things have changed. There are only a couple of farms left in the county, the EPA said our water could cause cancer and the Chamber of Commerce decided that if they changed the interpretation of the city name to “Little Foxes”, it would be easier to market.

I’ll tell you what things used to be like and what they are like now. The things I say in this blog are the same things I say to my cat while reading the paper. Take it all with a grain of salt. It’s just one old guy’s opinion.
