Saturday Opinions

My opinion is that Mayor Larry may have to seek out new footwear and I will  have to continue not buying overpriced Eddie Bauer flannel shirts and jeans.

  • Darryl E. says Waukesha’s Super WalMart is still on track.
  • The Fair schedule. Bundle up, it’s Wisconsin.
  • Homer says he doesn’t hate Brett Favre. I don’t either. They use us, we use them. In less politically correct times, we called them “4 F”s.
  • Owen Robinson wonders where the stimulus jobs are. I heard Diamond Jim Doyle say that his $47, 000,000.00 contract with Spain (with no mention about what American manufacturers were considered) should result in 80 jobs created and a high-speed train which goes no faster than the current trains. That’s $58 7,000.00 per job. Eighty jobs filled, only 122, 920 jobs left to go.
  • Ann Coulter sees some hypocrisy.
  • Jessica McBride’s column is also about the SCOTUS nominee.
  • Pete Kennedy’s tired of your negativity regarding the Black Trumpet/Clarke Hotel, so shape up. It couldn’t be that we’ve been taken to the cleaners so often in the last 10 years by politicians feathering their own nests, that our financial adviser has all the ethics of a three card monte player, that there isn’t someone in Nigeria willing to deposit several million dollars in our bank accounts for safe-keeping, that the guy on the phone doesn’t really work for the Sheriff’s Department charity, that the man over there doesn’t want to act out his sick fantasies with our 12-year old daughter, that it actually is a religion of peace. No, it’s our fault for not trusting completely.
  • Congressman Sensenbrenner on something. I didn’t read it.
  • Saturday Sound Off.

I have to say I like Pete Kennedy’s piece. In my dealings with people, it seems the most vocal and negative critics of the downtown are people who were born and raised in Waukesha. They seem to remember a time when the downtown was different, and nothing will equal what they remember. In the 1940s and 50s, the downtown was a busy commercial district. It is never going to be that again. Now it is a vibrant and colorful and fun place to go. I like it!
Some people will never be happy.

At least the Sound Off likes me again.

    john,
Pete Kennedy’s peice is another pure example of naivet’e. Perhaps you and Pete should get a copy of the Developers Agreement to find out exactly how loose this deal was with taxpayers money.
A Promissory Note for $750,000 was signed Where did $750,000 dollars go? A business loan was made without a personal guarantee. It’s suppose to be repaid with the Net Room Tax, interest free, not indexed to inflation and spread out over 13 years. If the Net Room Tax isn’t enough to cover the payment, the LLC is suppose to cover the difference. As we all read, as reported at Waukesha FYI, the room tax wasn’t being paid and the city yanked the business liquor license.

In the Business Concept Name and Description, a 10 sentence document of what’s proposed, the money could have went to, “Bedding will be Italian linens with thread count of 500 and higher topped with down comforters and an exquisite blanket and throw pillows.” Or,”…a collection of over 5,000 bottles of wine from the best vineyards in the world.”
Heck, it could have went to campaign contributions.
I’ve asked the city council for accountability, my guess is that this will never show up on any city agenda and get the public attention it deserves.

Mayor Nelson has a fidicary responsibility to the citizens of Waukesha and the downtown business owners. He’s not looking very fiscally responsible right now.

    James,
The negative Sound-Off sounds like the writing style of a former disgraced democrat school board member. They hate it when people like you and me sign our names to the truth.
Notice he only mentioned “cuts” and never addressed local fiscal decisions. Wait until the district loses the big lawsuit or settles on large losses. You’ll get the blame somehow.
