The Last Monday in January 2009

2009? It’s 2009 already?
Congressman Paul Ryan is the guest host on CNBC Squawk Box this morning. I was pleased to hear the OB White House is being swayed by its economic advisers who say that the fastest way to get recovery money into the economy is through tax cuts. As I prepare my taxes in the next couple of weeks, I’ll probably be thanking W that he lowered some taxes while in office.
- Are you up for a cell phone ban while driving? I think it’s a good idea. I answered a cell phone call once while driving and I noticed that my concentration was on the phone call and not on my driving. It’s like trying to drive while talking to someone in the back seat.
- Janboree was this past weekend and at least the ice sculptures won’t melt right away. I didn’t go. I’m tired of being cold. Now is the time to pull out seed catalogues and the travel brochures I picked up at last year’s Sports Show.
- It’s also time to start filling sandbags for the Spring floods.
- Oh, I told you Lt. Bill Graham of the Waukesha Police was retiring. I found his picture in one of Ma’s albums:

- I noticed another former Waukesha policeman passed away as well, Bob Tiegs. Here is a picture from his retirement party way back when. That thing he’s holding contains a bottle of booze. Ma used to make those bottle covers for every occasion:

- Bad times for Harley and its employees.
- Local politicians say that they’re taking the raise because if they don’t, the state will just waste the money. I feel so much better now.
- Carroll remains undefeated in the league. Go Pios! They shot over 76% from the field. I couldn’t do that standing unguarded under the basket.
- Those who advocate breathalyzers for first time drunk drivers take note.
- Ahh, the annual Coon Feed is on. And no I wouldn’t. Not even with a gun to my head.
- I found this interesting: About 82% of all undergraduate grades given to University of North Carolina students were A’s. Some enterprising researcher in Wisconsin should take a look at Madison.
- Waukesha County schools are taking cues from something called the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network as they participate in “No Name-calling Week”. Boneheads.
- The First Baptist Church celebrated (if you can say “celebrated” and “Baptist” in the same sentence) their 170th anniversary with an open house. It’s much brighter in there than it looks from the outside.
- Not that it matters, but I’ve actually been to Seymour, IN the home of the new Miss America. I went for a wedding. It’s also John Mellencamp’s home town.

Ma made that miniature policeman that Bob is holding. It held a gift, probably a bottle of booze, considering that was a popular gift at the time.
Well, it was worth noting twice.
Congrats Carroll. Wish the team could get some more coverage, or a bump to a higher division.
Enjoy Carroll’s success today because if they move to CCIW, it’s back to regular thrashings by Augustana again.
