Another $800. But my car no longer scrapes or squeaks as it travels down the street. Again a victim Waukesha’s pot holes and railroad tracks, I had some sort of bent plate in the brake and worn out control arm bushings, which could only be repaired (of course) by replacing the control arms. All this happened in the 5,000 miles since the great repair back in July. Fortunately, I still buy $1 lottery ticket once a week so I have nothing to worry about.
- Mark Belling speculates on Diamond Jim Doyle’s future: Federal Judge. It all sounds plausible, including the huge tax increases planned by the Democrats.
- City taxes are going up and Mayor Larry still has his precious memberships so he can go to conventions in far away places. The mayor touts the value of membership in his latest memo:
One of the benefits of belonging to an organization like the Wisconsin Alliance of Cities is getting up to date information on our state legislature. Attached are the election results which explain some of the significant changes in the State Assembly.
- Me? I read newspapers and blogs and get the same information for free.
- My alderman, Chris Hernandez, who hasn’t been in office for too long was the only alderman not at the meeting. His vote wouldn’t have made any kind of difference but still, it means I wasn’t represented.
- Now cities and states are begging for bailouts to “alleviate financial constraints and grow jobs”. Bull (cough). Cut, eliminate, reduce and combine services to reduce your budgets.
- Congressman Sensenbrenner wrote a letter warning Mr. Obama about the deficit.
- A big drug bust in Waukesha.
- The state has enhanced its sex offender website.
- Kruger Antiques is closing its doors.
- The gun deer hunt starts on Saturday. I miss those big cartoons the Journal used to have on the first Sunday morning of deer season showing all the goings on up north. I usually wear a flannel shirt on the first day of deer season and have lunch in Eagle. That’s as close as I get to being a hunter.
- This bow hunter got a rare white (not albino) deer in Waukesha County. Now they’re even rarer.
- In lieu of deer hunting, I’m going on safari in Brookfield. Call me Bwana.
- In a sure sign that Thanksgiving is near, the Christmas Parade is on Sunday. No Packer game this Sunday.
- Wednesday Sound Off has much praise for Applebee’s and more thoughts on various subjects.
- The Waukesha Plan Commission will meet to approve the new, improved plans for the grandstand at Larry Nelson Stadium at Chad Bauer Field in We Don’t Really Care About What You Think (formerly Frame) Park.
- The Journal has a drawing:

I would submit that what you’re going to actually see will be more like this:

Do you think Charlie Betker will be running for alderman again?

I think it’s unlikely that Betker would want to come back. Hernandez would be vulnerable if he was up for re-election in the Spring, based on his performance so far but he’s not.
