The Weekend in Waukesha kicks off tonight. I would describe everything outside as orange. Red sky in the morning, cyclers take warning. It should be interesting to see who and how many whos show up to this thing. Estimates of up to 100,000 for the crowd in West Bend. Of course it was for Lynyrd Skynyrd. Toin it up.
The Chronicle will be there. Well … maybe not tonight. College football season starts on TV. I don’t normally care a lick about North Carolina State and South Carolina, but since it’s the first football game that counts, I’m interested.
- I drove through downtown last night about 6:30 and it was busier than usual. Signs are all posted, the Metros are all up and here we go. Blues Traveler tonight. I’ve heard of them and might be able to recognize a song or two.
- HAWS is even having a Harley-themed cat adoption. I don’t know a cat who likes things as loud as Harleys.
- The Freeman has a picture of Waukesha’s Harley dealership from the 1920s.
- A municipal court judge in Waukesha is defying City Administrator Lori Luther by suggesting police not write as many tickets during Harleyfest because the city won’t hire the judge an extra clerk. I’m not sure where I fall on this story yet, but it’s probably with Ms Luther.
- Columnist Laurel Walker mentions that in her column.
- Ray’s on South is open in time for the fest. Good luck!
- I didn’t really didn’t read this item about a Waukesha County transit something or other but I saw Allison said something so … just do whatever she said.
- I’m running late so here’s Wigderson on the Democratic candidates for Bill Kramer’s 97th seat.
- And today’s Sound Off.
- It just started to rain.

“HAWS is even having a Harley …”
HAAAAAA HA HA HA ha! Do you suppose those kitties go home with ear muffs and leather-fringed collars? Never loose a marketing moment, eh HAWS?
“Red sky in the morning, cyclers take warning”
Dang! I’ve always heard ‘farmers’, but I was corrected this summer to ’sailors’. Now your throwing ‘cyclers’ out there.
I guess we could all take warning. I think storms don’t discriminate our occupations. lolol

Just take a look at the amount of municipal citations that Judge Cook has issued since he took office. It is quadruple his predecessor. We need his help in keeping this growing city under control. Keep this man happy for heaven’s sake. We need him.

I have worked with the Project Sweep kids and have really appreciated Judge Cook. He is fair and even handed and really takes interest in these young offenders.
Ms. Luther doesn’t know that only a few short years ago, there were maybe 50 or 60 citations written per year. For a city our size, that number was despicable. Judge Cook has gone after the property owners who don’t care about their neighbors. He has made them clean up their acts.
Ms Luther just doesn’t know. She should do her homework. All she has done since she got here is hand over the keys to the city to outsiders looking for a party. Then she offends the judge who will keep the partygoers under control. Thanks Ms. Luther.

Please refresh my memory. If all the bands and entertainment at Weekend in Waukesha is free, where does the money come to pay them ? From beer sales?

Just because Cook has done a good job doesn’t mean he should be able to tell the police they shouldn’t issue citations. If someone breaks they law the police should review what happened and issue a citation if they feel it is warranted. Cook should shut his yap and do his job.

The bikers that I know are NOT heavy drinkers when they are riding. Most are extremely safety conscious and riding with a buzz, especially in unfamiliar territory, is not an option.
Fortunately, major sponsors will help cover the costs of this 4 day party.

Will Laurel Walker ever run out of things to complain about?

I think I would be more sympathetic to Cook if he had handled this issue differently. He could have contacted a couple alderman privately and asked them to bring the matter up at a city council meeting, rather than choose this very public method. Ask the police to issue fewer citations? C’mon.
His complaint may be legit, but it comes across like he’s having a tantrum.

Wait until Northwoods has 34 games, Carroll University has “x” home games, Land O’ Lakes has “x” home games, and South has “x” home games. Traffic, noise, trash, drunks and 1 big eye sore in what was a really nice park…all summer long.
The alderman have 1 chance to reconsider, next meeting. Once this thing is built, it will be the icon of visual rememberance in 2010 elections.
